Target
Introduction
Lumpy skin disease virus is a contagious poxvirus belonging to the genus Capripoxvirus. LSDV was first found in southern Africa and spread through the Middle East to the European countries and Russia. The natural hosts of LSDV are limited within the non-ruminants. LSDV primarily affects cattle and zebus, sometimes giraffes, water buffalo, and impalas, while goats and sheep do not develop lumpy skin disease (LSD) after exposure to this virus.
Alternative Names
LSDV155; hypothetical protein; The poxviridae are enveloped unsegmented dsDNA viruses; unlike many dsDNA viruses that replicate in the host nucleus poxviruses encode their own replication machinery and therefore replicate in the cytoplasm; viral genes are expressed in a bi-phasic manner with early genes encoding non-structural proteins involved in genome replication and late genes encoding the viral structural proteins; the Entomopoxvirinae are a sub-family of the Poxviridae that infect insects
Official Symbol
